Nyota Champions programme terms
The rules for referring schools to NyotaSkul and earning rewards.
Last updated 25 October 2026. These terms form part of our terms of service.
1. About the programme
The Nyota Champions programme rewards people, organisations and schools that introduce new schools to NyotaSkul. It is run by NyotaSkul ("NyotaSkul", "we"). By taking part, you agree to these terms.
There are two kinds of participant: Champions, who are approved individuals and organisations and receive cash rewards, and referring schools, which are schools with an active NyotaSkul subscription and receive account credit.
2. Who can take part
- Champions must be 18 or older, or a registered organisation, apply through our website, and be approved by us. We may decline an application without giving a reason.
- Champions must give us accurate details, including a KRA PIN and payout details, before any reward is paid.
- Referring schools must have an active, paid subscription in good standing.
- NyotaSkul staff and their close family members can't take part.
3. Qualifying referrals
A referral qualifies when all of these apply:
- the school is new to NyotaSkul: it has not had a workspace, a paid plan, or an active sales conversation with us in the previous 12 months;
- the school registers using your referral code or link, or was registered by you as a lead under section 4;
- the school pays for a plan; and
- the referral doesn't break section 9.
A school is linked to only one referrer: the first valid lead registered for it, or otherwise the first referral code it registered with. A code can't be added after a school has registered, except where we agree it was left out by mistake within 14 days. You can't refer your own school. Our records decide which referral applies; if you disagree, tell us within 30 days and we will review it fairly.
4. Registering leads
A Champion can register a school as a lead by sending us its name, county and a contact person. If the school wasn't already known to us, the lead is yours for 90 days. If the school registers and pays within that time, the referral is yours even if it didn't use your code. You can extend a lead once by showing us you are still actively working with the school.
5. Champion rewards
- Recurring reward: 20% of each subscription payment we receive from the referred school during the first 12 months after its first payment, and 10% of each payment received in months 13 to 24.
- Rooted bonus: a one-off KES 5,000 when the referred school has paid for 12 months of subscription without a break of more than one term.
- Rewards are calculated on the amount actually received, excluding VAT and other taxes, and excluding one-off charges such as set-up or data migration fees.
- Rewards end 24 months after the school's first payment, or earlier if the school leaves. If a school leaves and returns within the 24 months, rewards resume until the period ends.
6. School rewards
- A referring school receives credit equal to 10% of each subscription payment we receive from the school it referred, for up to 24 months after that school's first payment.
- Credit is applied to the referring school's next NyotaSkul invoice. It can't reduce an invoice below zero; any balance carries forward. Credit can't be exchanged for cash and ends if the referring school's subscription ends.
7. How rewards are paid
- Each reward is held for 30 days after we receive the payment it is based on. If that payment is refunded or reversed during the holding period, or later, the reward is cancelled, or deducted from future rewards.
- We pay Champions at the end of each school term for rewards that have passed the holding period, by M-Pesa or bank transfer to an account in the Champion's own name. Balances under KES 1,000 carry forward.
- We provide a statement with each payout showing each school, the payments received and the rewards earned.
- If we find that a reward was paid by mistake or in breach of these terms, we may recover it from future rewards or ask for it to be repaid.
8. Tax
Champions are responsible for their own tax. We will deduct and pay to the Kenya Revenue Authority any withholding tax the law requires, and give you a certificate for it. Organisations registered for VAT must give us a valid tax invoice for their rewards.
9. Conflicts of interest
- No reward is paid for a school where the Champion, or a close family member, is an owner, director, board member, head teacher, deputy, bursar or other person who makes or influences the school's decision to buy NyotaSkul.
- You must declare to us any connection you have with a school you refer. We will tell you whether the referral can qualify.
- You must not offer or give anything of value to anyone at a school to influence its decision, in line with the Bribery Act, 2016. For public schools, the rules of public procurement must also be followed.
10. Conduct
- Describe NyotaSkul accurately, using our materials. Don't promise prices, discounts, features or results we haven't approved in writing.
- Don't present yourself as an employee or agent of NyotaSkul, or sign anything on our behalf. Champions are independent.
- Don't send unsolicited bulk messages, or use our name or logo in advertising, domain names or social media accounts without our written permission.
- Don't create fake schools, registrations or payments. Fraud ends your participation, cancels unpaid rewards and may be reported to the authorities.
11. Data protection
- We process Champions' personal data (name, contact details, KRA PIN, payout details and referral records) to run the programme, pay rewards and meet tax obligations, as explained in our privacy policy.
- For referred schools, Champions can see only the school's name, its referral status and the rewards earned. They never get access to the school's workspace or records.
- When you register a lead, you must have a lawful reason to share the contact person's details with us, such as their agreement to be contacted.
12. Changes and ending
- We may change these terms or the reward rates with at least 30 days' notice. Changes don't reduce rewards for schools that made their first payment before the change takes effect.
- You can leave the programme at any time. We will pay qualifying rewards earned up to the date you leave, after the holding period.
- We may end your participation if you break these terms. If the breach is serious, such as fraud, a hidden conflict of interest or bribery, unpaid rewards are cancelled.
- If we close the programme, we will give 60 days' notice and keep paying rewards for schools that made their first payment before the closing date, for the rest of their 24 months.
13. General
